Ingredients
8 ounces sliced ham
8 slices sourdough or whole wheat bread
1 Granny Smith apple,peeled, cored, thinly sliced
4 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced
3 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
Directions
Place 1/4 of the ham slices on each of 4 bread slices.
Top with the apple slices and Swiss cheese.
Cover with remaining bread slices.
Combine the eggs, milk and salt in a shallow bowl.
Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Reduce heat to medium-low.
Dip each side of a sandwich quickly in the egg mixture; place in the hot skillet 1 or 2 at a time.
Cook for about 2 minutes on each side or until nicely browned and cheese is melted.
Add more butter to the skillet as needed.
Keep the cooked sandwiches on a baking sheet in a 150-degree oven to keep them warm.
