Ham And Cheese Bread Bake Recipe
Ingredients
| 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or margarine | ||
| 1 medium-size yellow onion, finely chopped | ||
| Frozen green peas package | 1 , drained | |
| 1 pound baked or boiled ham, cut into 1-inch cubes | ||
| 4 slices whole wheat bread, cut into 1-inch squares 3 large eggs | ||
| Egg white | 1 Large | |
| Milk | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Shredded monterey jack cheese | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1/2 teaspoon each salt and black pepper | ||
| Dijon Mustard | 1 Tablespoon | |
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350° F.
Melt the butter in a 12-inch nonstick skillet over moderate heat.
Add the onion and saute, stirring, for 2 to 3 minutes or until slightly softened.
Add the asparagus tips and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes.
Add the ham and bread and toss to mix.
Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat the eggs and egg white with the milk, all but 2 tablespoons of the cheese, the salt, pepper, and mustard, just enough to combine.
Stir in the skillet mixture.
Pour all into a greased flameproof 2-quart shallow baking dish and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
Cover with foil and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Transfer the dish to the broiler, and broil 4 inches from the heat for 2 minutes or until lightly golden.
