Top and tail 1 lb.
green beans.
If not the stringless type, remove strings.
Cut crosswise into pieces about 1/4 wide.
Place in a pan with a little boiling water and 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion.
Sometimes add a chopped peeled tomato.
Boil for 20 minutes then add 3 medium size potatoes, thickly sliced.
Continue cooking till beans and potatoes are done and the water boiled away — if some still remains, drain it off.
Mash beans and potatoes together with the back of a tablespoon, seasoning to taste with salt and pepper, and adding a lump of butter.
Reheat and serve.
