Ingredients

 Grapefruit4
 1/3 cup fine sugar
 Rum1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Egg whites4
 Sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Salt To Taste
 Vanilla ice cream

Directions

Cut grapefruit in halves, remove pulp, leaving membrane.
Place pulp in bowl with sugar and rum, and chill in refrigerator several hours.
Remove membranes from skins without breaking them and place in refrigerator.
At serving time, fill shells with fruit, top with ice cream and cover with meringue, making sure it touches edge of shell all around, covering ice cream completely.
Place in very hot oven under broiler 1 or 2 minutes until brown.
