Grandma's Chicken Dumplings Recipe
Ingredients
3 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/3 cup shortening
1 cup water
Directions
Combine the flour, salt and shortening in a bowl and mix with the hands until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Add the water and mix in with the hands; if dough is too soft, add a little more flour.
Knead the dough 5 to 10 strokes on a floured surface and let stand for a few minutes.
Roll to 1/8 inch thick on a well floured surface.
Cut into 1 inch wide strips.
Break each strip into 4 or 5 pieces and drop into boiling chicken broth.
Simmer, uncovered, for about 20 minutes.
Serve with a salad, chicken, mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes, greens, and a dessert.
