Recipe Story

I've been eating southern biscuits and gravy since I was old enough to consume solid food. My grandmother took pride in her B n Gs - I've yet to be able to recreate hers exactly but I come pretty close.

Ingredients

1 lb breakfast sausage

1 tin biscuits - or make your own

2-3 tbs flour

1 pint milk (you can use skim but it's not so easy... I use 2%)

1 heap of love

Directions

crumble and fry off the sausage
drain off most of the fat - leave behind 1-2 tbs
sprinkle on flour to soak up all the fat - cook for a few minutes stirring often
slowly add the milk - start very slow so you don't get any lumps
bake your biscuits
to plate - brake a biscuit in half and center on the plate - cover with your desired amount of gravy...
Eat and enjoy...

I am so glad they aren't popular here-as I love them! My grandmother used to make these and also fried sweet potatoes and grav and biscuits for breakfast. The closest I have come to is using white pepper, but I know Grandma didn't. Wonder if they used top cream in the gravy? I know grandpa made their own sausage as well as hog head minced meat and lotsa good stuff like pear honey. I wasn't born in California just came here at the age of 4. You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl!
