Good Brown Stew Recipe
Ingredients
2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 to 2 tablespoons salad oil
1/4 cup instant chopped onion
1 small bay leaf
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/8 teaspoon instant minced garlic
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 can (16 ounces) whole carrots, drained (reserve liquid)
1 can (15 ounces) whole potatoes, drained (reserve liquid)
1 can (8 ounces) whole onions, drained (reserve liquid)
Directions
In Dutch oven, brown meat in oil over medium heat.
Sprinkle seasonings on meat.
Add enough water to reserved vegetable liquids to measure 4 cups; pour on meat.
Heat to boiling.
Reduce heat; simmer 2 hours or until meat is tender.
Add small amount of water if necessary.
Add vegetables; simmer 15 minutes longer or until vegetables are heated through.
Serve with a simple salad of lettuce wedges and a typical U.S.A.dessert strawberry shortcake.
