Ingredients

 
Margarine - 1 cup
 
Sugar - 1/2 cup
 
Egg yolk - 1
 
Orange rind - 1 teaspoon, grated
 
Sifted flour - 21/2 cups
 
Pitted dates - 24
 
Walnuts
 
Confectioners' sugar

Directions

GETTING READY
1) Grease a baking sheet.

MAKING
2) Combine and cream the margarine and sugar till light and fluffy.
3) Add in the egg yolk and rind and mix till blended.
4) Slowly add in the flour, mixing after each addition.
5) Continue mixing till a smooth dough.
6) Cut the dates in half crosswise.
7) Add a small piece of walnut into each half.
8) Taking small pieces of dough, press the date into each piece.
9) Shape into a smooth ball, covering the date.
10) Arrange the balls on the baking sheet.
11) Place in the oven at 325° F and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
12) While still hot, coat with confectioners' sugar.
13) Cool and cover with sugar again.

SERVING
14) Serve as a healthy snack.
