Golden Onion & Ham Sandwiches Recipe
Ingredients
| Onions | 4 Large | |
| Butter/Margarine | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 6 slices dark rye bread Dijon or | ||
| German mustard | ||
| 6 thin slices Black Forest, Westphalian, or | ||
| Baked ham 6 oz. total | ||
| 6 slices Swiss cheese about 5 oz. total | ||
| Coarsely ground pepper | ||
Directions
Thinly slice onions and separate into rings.
Melt butter in a wide frying pan over medium heat.
Add onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until very soft and golden about 25 minutes.
About 5 minutes before onions are done, place bread in a single layer on a large baking sheet.
Broil about 4 inches below heat, turning once, until toasted about 2 minutes.
Spread each slice with mustard; add one slice each of the ham and cheese.
Return to oven and broil until cheese is melted about 1 minute.
Spoon onions equally atop each sandwich.
Season to taste with pepper.
