Capsicum Gojju Recipe Video

Gojju is a preparation in which the vegetables are cooked in tamarind juice .. it is very spicy and is the main dish sometimes when you dont want to just make sambhar rice etc... In this video I have shown how to make it with capsicum, but the same procedure would work for ladies's finger, and onion .. Heres how to make it: take about 5 or 6 tamarind peices and boil them in water along with some jaggery .. keep aside.. Then in a kadai, heat about 5 to 6 table spoons of cooking oil and add to it, 1/4 teaspoon of black mustard seeds, 1/4 teaspoon of hing( asafoetida ), 1/4 teaspoon of haldi ( turmeric ) powder and some curry leaves .. then add the cut vegetables ( could be capsicum as shown here, or ladies' finger, or onion ) and cook in a low flame till the vegetable is fully cooked ( test it by cutting the vegetable.. it should easily cut ); then add the tamarind juice + jaggery mixture and allow the mix to thicken by boiling ... when sufficiently thickened .. add 1 to 2 teaspoons of salt .. and about two teaspoons of rasam powder .. continue to boil for a few minutes and when sufficiently homogenised .. remove from stove and serve .. to be mixed in rice along with some ghee and eaten .. can also be taken as a side dish with chapatis.. EAT !

Editors Review

Gojju is a melange of flavors and is a frequently appearing item on a Karnataka menu. This spicy curry is cooked in tamarind juice and is great with rice or akki roti. In this video the chef has shown how to make it with capsicum, but the same procedure would work for ladies' finger, and onion. It is a great digestive and is a wonderful substitute for popular sambar.
