Gingerbread People Recipe
Ingredients
| 125 g / 4 oz margarine | ||
| 1/2 cup / 75 g / 2 1/2 oz brown sugar | ||
| Egg yolk | 1 | |
| 2 1/2 cups / 300 g / 10 oz plain flour | ||
| Soda bicarbonate | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Ground ginger | 3 Teaspoon | |
| Golden syrup | 2 1/2 Tablespoon | |
Directions
1. Cream together the margarine and brown sugar, and beat in the egg yolk, mixing well. Sift in the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ginger and gradually blend into the creamed mixture, along with the golden syrup. Knead lightly to make a soft dough.
2. Divide the dough into small portions. Roll out each portion of dough to a thickness of 1/2 cm / 1/4 in between two sheets of greaseproof paper. Cut into shapes using cutters.
3. Place on lightly greased oven trays. Bake at 180°C/350°F/Gas 4 for 10 minutes. Cool on trays. Decorate with icing, if desired.
