 Whole wheat pastry flour2 1/3 Cup (16 tbs), sifted
 Baking powder1 Teaspoon

 Ground ginger1 Teaspoon
 Ground cinnamon1/2 Teaspoon
 Nutmeg1/2 Teaspoon, grated
 Ground allspice1/2 Teaspoon
 Butter1/2 Cup (16 tbs), softened
 Brown sugar1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Eggs2
 1/2 cup unsulphured molasses
 Hot water3/4 Cup (16 tbs)

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
3. Blend together the baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and butter. Stir in the sugar. Beat in the eggs. Stir in the molasses and add the hot water alternately with the flour mixture. Pour into well-buttered 9-inch square pan and bake for 45 minutes.
