Ingredients

 MIX TOGETHER THOROUGHLY: 1/4 cup soft shortening
 Sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Egg1 Small
 Molasses1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 STIR IN: 1/2 cup water
 SIFT TOGETHER AND ADD: 2 cups flour
 Soda1/2 Teaspoon
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 Ginger1 Teaspoon
 Nutmeg1/2 Teaspoon
 Cloves1/2 Teaspoon
 Cinnamon1/2 Teaspoon

Directions

Chill dough.
Drop by rounded spoonfuls about 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake 7-8 minutes in moderately hot oven (400 degrees)? until set.
Should leave imprint when lightly touched with finger.
