Brigitte is right. This is not "real" German potato salad. What people know in the U.S. as "German potato salad", should be referred to as German-style or German-inspired. Ceam soups and tons of American bacon have no place in "real German potato salad. Although some German recipes for potato salad call for some diced bacon as a garnish, this does not mean fried American bacon strips, as they do not exist in Germany. German bacon is more like Canadian bacon or smoked ham.

don't know what this is, but it's not german potato salad. different regions of the country have their own slant on potato salad but having spent my first 20 yrs in that country, i can assure you that no region uses canned soups of any kind in their salad. mostly it's an oil and vinegar dressing with onions, either raw of lightly sauteed with bacon, some add dill pickles and some of the juice others slice raw cucumber and most add some chopped greenery like dill or parsley.
