Gaspe Biscuits Recipe
These gaspe biscuits recipe is perpared by using raisins along with nutmeg and vanilla for flavor. Baked with a batter of flour with buttermilk and sugar, the gaspe biscuits are quite simple and delicious too.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
4 cups unsifted all purpose flour
1 cup raisins
Directions
Cream sugar and shortening together.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Beat well.
Dissolve soda in the buttermilk and add to creamed mixture.
Stir in sifted dry ingredients lightly.
Lastly add raisins.
Dough should be soft.
Add 1 or 2 tablespoons additional flour if you wish.
Roll out dough about 3/8 inch thick on a floured board.
Cut with a floured biscuit cutter and place on greased cookie sheets.
Bake at 375F about 20 minutes.
Add eggs and vanilla.
