Ingredients

 
2 cups all purpose flour
 
2 cups sugar
 
1 teaspoon baking soda
 
1 cup water
 
1 cup butter or margarine
 
1/4 cup cocoa
 
1/2 cup buttermilk
 
2 eggs, slightly beaten
 
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 
1 cup creamy peanut butter
 
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
 
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
 
3 tablespoons cocoa
 
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
 
3 to 5 tablespoons buttermilk
 
2 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar

Directions

Combine flour, sugar, and soda; mix well, and set aside.
Combine water, 1 cup butter, and 1/4 cup cocoa in a heavy saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring constancy.
Gradually stir into flour mixture.
Stir in 1/2 cup buttermilk, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Pour into a greased and floured 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking pan; bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool in pan.
Combine peanut butter and oil; mix well.
Spread on cooled cake.
Combine 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon butter and 3 tablespoons cocoa in a small saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring constancy, until butter melts and mixture is smooth.
Remove from heat; add remaining ingredients.
Beat until thick enough to spread; spread over peanut butter mixture.
