Ingredients

 
3 tablespoons oil
 
1 rump or chuck roast weighing 4 or 5 lbs.
 
3 medium sized onions, peeled and chopped
 
1/4 teaspoon cloves
 
2 cups apple juice or apple cider
 
1 1/2 cups dried prunes
 
1 1/2 cups dried apricots
 
2-4 tablespoons cornstarch
 
1/4 cup cold water

Directions

In heavy bottom pot or skillet, heat oil to medium high temperature.
Brown meat on all sides.
Add onions, cloves, and apple juice or cider, and cover tightly.
Turn heat down, and simmer for two hours or until nearly tender.
Add prunes and apricots and continue to cook 1/2 hour longer.
If desired, thicken liquid in pot with cornstarch dissolved in cold water.
