Ingredients

 
1/3 cup chopped, cooked prunes
 
2/3 cup finely chopped apples
 
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
 
1/3 cup water
 
2 teaspoons lemon juice or vinegar
 
1/8 teaspoon salt
 
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
 
3 cups Ever Ready Blend
 
1/2 cup granulated sugar
 
1 egg, slightly beaten
 
1/2 cup rnilk

Directions

Combine prunes, apples, brown sugar, water, lemon juice, salt, and cinnamon; cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
Remove from heat.
Cool.
Combine Ever-Ready Blend and granulated sugar in bowl.
Combine egg and milk and add to sugar mixture; stir until soft dough is formed. (If necessary, add a little more milk.) Place on lightly floured board and knead 30 seconds.
Place on lightly floured baking sheet and roll into 15x10-inch rectangle.
Spread filling down center of rectangle.
Cut 15 one-inch slits in dough along each side of filling.
Fold strips at an angle over filling, alternating strips from side to side.
Bake in moderate oven (375°F.) 40 minutes, or until done.
While hot, brush lightly with 1/2 recipe Glossy Confectioners' Glaze, if desired.
