Ingredients

 Shortening1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Egg1 , beaten
 Molasses1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Strong hot coffee- 1/3 cup
 Flour1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), sieved
 Baking powder1 1/2 Teaspoon
 Salt3/4 Teaspoon
 Baking soda1/4 Teaspoon
 Cinnamon powder1 Teaspoon
 Clove powder1/2 Teaspoon
 Butter for greasing
 Confectioners' sugar frosting- as required

Directions

GETTING READY
1. Pre heat an oven at 175 C (350 F).
2. Grease a 9 inch x 13 inch baking pan, line with butter paper and keep aside.

MAKING
3. In a medium sized bowl, combine dry ingredients. Sieve together.
4. In a medium sized bowl, combine sugar and shortening. Cream well.
5. Add eggs, coffee and molasses and beat well till mixture is light and fluffy.
6. Add sieved ingredients and fold gently using a wooden spatula.
7. Transfer mixture on to greased pan and bake in pre heated oven for 25 minutes or till done.
8. Once baked, remove from oven and keep aside to cool.
9. Cut into bars or squares. Makes 18 no-€™s.

SERVING
10. Serve warm frosted with sugar frosting.
