Ingredients

 Shortening1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Egg1 , beaten
 1/2 cup light molasses
 Hot water1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Enriched flour1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), sifted
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 Baking powder1 1/2 Teaspoon
 Soda1/4 Teaspoon
 Instant coffee1 Teaspoon
 Cinnamon1 Teaspoon
 Cloves1/2 Teaspoon

Directions

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar; add egg and molasses; mix well.
Add hot water.
Sift dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture; beat till smooth.
Bake in greased 13x9 1/2x2-inch pan at 350° 25 minutes.
While warm, frost with Confectioners' Frosting, Cool; cut in bars.
