Fried Cheese (Saganati) Recipe
This fried cheese recipe is a snacky recipe for frying cheese slices with a coating of eggs and flour. Served with a sqeeze of lemon juice, the fried cheese are best served hot and fresh. Appetizing and snacky, the fried cheese are a rage at out place and I love these snacky cheese as appetizers too.
Ingredients
| Kefalotyri or kasseri cheese, sliced lengthwise in 1/4 inch thick wedges | ||
| 2 egg yolks mixed with 2 tablespoons water | ||
| Flour Olive oil | ||
| 2 lemons, cut in quarters | ||
Directions
Dip cheese slices into egg yolk mixture, then into flour, coating each side evenly.
Shake off excess flour.
In a 10 inch skillet, heat a 1/4 inch layer of olive oil.
When the oil begins to smoke, add the cheese.
Fry first on one side, then on the other.
Remove from skillet and squeeze some lemon juice on each slice.
Serve immediately.
Allow 2 slices of Saganaki for each person.
