 1 8-ounce package dried apples, cut up
 Water3 Cup (16 tbs)

 Shredded sharp Cheddar cheese3/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 All purpose flour3 Cup (16 tbs)
 Salt1 12 Teaspoon
 Lard1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Cold water3/4 Cup (16 tbs)

Directions

Rinse apples.
In saucepan combine apples and 3 cups water.
Cover; simmer 20 to 25 minutes.
Drain.
Combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
Stir in cheese.
Set aside.
Mix flour and salt; cut in lard till mixture resembles size of small peas.
Sprinkle water, I tablespoon at a time, over flour mixture; toss with a fork; push to side of bowl.
Repeat till all is moistened.
Form into a ball.
Roll on floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness; cut into 4-inch circles.
Place scant tablespoonful filling on half of each circle.
Fold over in half-moon shape; seal edges with fork.
In a heavy skillet, heat 1/4 inch fat to 375°.
Fry pies till brown, 3 to 4 minutes per side.
Drain well on paper toweling.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
