1 cup unsifted regular all-purpose flour
 
2/3 cup sugar
 
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
 
1/4, teaspoon salt
 
1 cup seedless raisins
 
1/2 cup milk
 
2 cups water
 
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
 
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
 
Whipping cream

Directions

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together into a mixing bowl.
Stir in raisins, then the milk; stir just to blend well.
Pour batter into a greased 9-inch-square baking pan.
Heat together the water, brown sugar, and butter, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
Pour the syrup over batter in the baking dish.
(Don't worry if the syrup seems too thin€”the batter will rise through it and mix to make a delicious sauce.) Bake in a 350° oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
