 Shortening1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Firmly packed brown sugar1 1/3 Cup (16 tbs)

 All-purpose flour -2 cups

 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 Ground cinnamon1 Teaspoon
 Ground nutmeg1/2 Teaspoon
 Cardamom1/2 Teaspoon
 Raisins1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Pecans1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
 Apple1 Cup (16 tbs), finely chopped
 Powdered sugar1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), sifted (Vanilla frosting:)
 Salt1/8 Teaspoon (Vanilla frosting:)
 Milk2 1/2 Tablespoon (Vanilla frosting:)
 Butter/Margarine1 Tablespoon, melted (Vanilla frosting:)
 Vanilla extract1/2 Teaspoon (Vanilla frosting:)

Directions

GETTING READY
1. Preheat oven to 400°

MAKING
2. Cream shortening. Add sugar and beat until fluffy.
3. Mix egg and milk. Beat well.
4. In a bowl mix flour, soda, spices and salt.
5. Fold into creamed mixture and mix.
6. Add raisins, pecans and apple.
7. On ungreased cookie sheets drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls, 1 1/2inches apart.
8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
9. Remove from cookie sheets and cool on wire racks.

SERVING
10. Frost with vanilla frosting.
11. To prepare, in a small mixing bowl add all ingredients.
12. Beat until smooth.
