Ingredients

 
1 cup sifted flour
 
1/2 teaspoon-salt
 
1/3cup shortening
 
2 tablespoons milk
 
2 tablespoons butter

Directions

Sift together flour and salt.
With a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in the shortening.
Sprinkle milk over mixture, tossing with a fork until dough stays together.
Round up into a ball and roll out on a lightly floured board to 1/8-inch thickness.
Dot with butter.
Fold so that the two sides meet in the center and seal by pressing the side edge of pastry with fingers.
Fold ends to center and seal.
Roll dough out again into a circle 1 1/2 inches larger than 9-inch pie pan.
Place in pie pan.
Fold edge under and flute to make a stand-up collar.
Prick thoroughly with a fork.
Bake in a very hot oven (475°F.) 8 to 10 minutes.
Cool.
