Basic French Onion Soup Recipe
Ingredients
| 4 c. thinly sliced, large onions | ||
| 5 tablesp. butter, margarine, fat or salad oil | ||
| Pepper | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| 5 beef bouillon cubes | ||
| Water | 5 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Salt | 1 Teaspoon | |
| 5 2" rounds toast | ||
| 2 tablesp. grated parmesan cheese | ||
Directions
Saute the onions in the butter until they are a rich golden brown, sprinkling them with the pepper while cooking.
Dissolve bouillon cubes in the water, then bring to boil.
Add browned onions and salt.
Continue simmering, covered, for 1 hr.
Place a 2" round of toast in each individual soup dish, and pour on the soup.
Then sprinkle with cheese and serve.
