Easy Filled Turnovers Recipe
Ingredients

| 1/4 teaspoon soda Orange, Cherry, Pineapple, Date, Fig, Raisin, or Prune Filling | ||
| Milk or light cream | ||
| Sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) (ORANGE FILLING :) | |
| Cornstarch | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) (ORANGE FILLING :) | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon (ORANGE FILLING :) | |
| Orange juice | 1 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) (ORANGE FILLING :) | |
| Orange peel | 2 Tablespoon, grated (ORANGE FILLING :) | |
| Butter/Margarine | 2 Tablespoon (ORANGE FILLING :) | |
| Sugar | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) (CHERRY FILLING :) | |
| Cornstarch | 3 Tablespoon (CHERRY FILLING :) | |
| Orange juice | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) (CHERRY FILLING :) | |
| 1/2 cup maraschino cherry syrup | ||
| Maraschino cherries | 18 , chopped (CHERRY FILLING :) | |
| Butter/Margarine | 1 1/2 Tablespoon (CHERRY FILLING :) | |
| 2 cups figs, raisins or pitted dates, finely chopped, or 2 cups mashed cooked prunes | ||
| Sugar | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) (DATE, FIG, RAISIN OR PRUNE FILLING :) | |
| Water | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) (DATE, FIG, RAISIN OR PRUNE FILLING :) | |
| 1/2 cup chopped nuts, if desired | ||
Directions
Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
Blend in flour, salt and soda.
Cover; chill 1 hour.
Prepare filling.
Heat oven to 400°.
Roll dough 1/16 inch thick on lightly floured cloth-covered board.
Cut into 3-inch circles or squares.
Spoon 1 teaspoon filling on half of each circle.
Fold dough over filling; press edges together.
Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Brush with milk; sprinkle with sugar.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until very light brown.
Immediately remove from baking sheet.
ORANGE FILLING :
Mix sugar, cornstarch and salt in medium saucepan.
Gradually stir orange juice into the sugar mixture.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
Boil and stir 2 minutes.
Stir in orange peel and butter.
Cool thoroughly.
CHERRY FILLING:
Mix sugar and cornstarch in saucepan.
Gradually stir in orange juice.
Stir in cherry syrup, cherries and butter.
Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
Boil and stir 1 minute.
Cool thoroughly.
DATE, FIG RAISIN OR PRUNE FILLING :
Combine all ingredients in saucepan.
Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
Cool thoroughly.
