Festive Braid Recipe

Ingredients
2 1/2-3 cups flour
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1/3 cup milk
1/3 cup water
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped mixed candied fruit
Directions
1 Combine 1 1/2 cups flour and yeast in mixing bowl. Heat milk, water, butter, sugar, salt, orange peel, and cardamom to hot (120°-130°F).
2 Add milk mixture, egg, and candied fruit to flour mixture.
3 Add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth€”about 10 minutes.
4 Cover dough with bowl and let rest 20 minutes.
5 Divide dough into 3 equal pieces, make ropes, and braid. Pinch ends, and place on greased baking sheet. Cover; let rise in warm place until double€”about 30€”45 minutes.
6 Bake in a preheated 375°F oven about 30-40 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack.
