Ingredients

 
3 cups cake flour
 
1 3/4 cups sugar
 
1 tablespoon baking powder
 
1 teaspoon salt
 
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
 
2 eggs
 
1 cup milk
 
1 teaspoon vanilla
 
1 teaspoon lemon extract
 
Butter Cream Frosting
 
Colored sugar-coated chocolates

Directions

1. Sift: flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into the large bowl of electric mixer; add shortening, eggs, milk, vanilla and lemon extract.
2. Beat at medium speed 4 minutes, scraping bowl often.
3. Line 36 muffin tins with paper liners; fill two-thirds full with batter.
4. Bake in moderate oven (350°) 20 minutes, or until tops spring back when lightly pressed with fingertip. Remove from tins and cool completely on wire racks.
5. Spread with BUTTER CREAM FROSTING and garnish with candies
