Classic Fasnacht Donuts Recipe

Hello dear, are you looking for Fastnachts recipe? Best enjoyed as a Side Dish this recipe was taught to me by a dear friend who also happens to be a great chef. You do not need to be a gourmet to gauge how delicious and flavorful this dish is.

Ingredients

 
1 cup milk
 
1 package active dry yeast
 
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
 
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
 
1 teaspoon salt
 
1/4 cup sugar
 
1 egg
 
2 cups sifted flour
 
vegetable shortening for deep frying

Directions

Heat milk slightly and add yeast to dissolve.
Add the 1 1/2 cups flour and beat until smooth.
Cover and let rise until double, 2 hours.
Cream the 1/4 cup vegetable shortening, salt, and sugar.
Beat in egg; stir into yeast mixture.
Add remaining 2 cups flour and mix thoroughly.
Place in greased bowl; turn once to grease surface.
Let rise again until double.
Roll on lightly floured surface to 3/8 inch thickness.
Cut with floured doughnut cutter.
Let rise 45 minutes.
Fry in deep vegetable shortening heated to 375° for 3 to 5 minutes.
Drain on paper toweling.
While still warm, roll in additional sugar or glaze with Confectioners Sugar Glaze.
