Farm Maidens Drink Recipe
Ingredients
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 cup water
Rind of 1 lemon, cut into strips
1 pound fresh apricots or 2/3 pound dried apricots
3 1/2 cups sweet white wine
1/2 cup vodka
Directions
Place the sugar, water and lemon rind in a saucepan and heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves.
If fresh apricots are used, poach them in boiling water for 1 to 2 minutes, drain and remove the pits.
Add them to the sugar-water mixture and let stand 24 hours.
If dried apricots are used, cook them in boiling water for 10 minutes and drain.
Add them to the sugar-water mixture and let stand 48 hours.
Place the apricots in a bottle with a tight fitting lid.
Remove the lemon rind from the liquid and pour it over the apricots.
Add the wine and vodka and seal the bottle.
Let the drink mellow 3 months before sampling.
