Family Steak Recipe
Ingredients
3 pounds chuck steak, cut about
1 1/2 inches thick (often labeled California Roast)
1 envelope (2 1/4 ounces) spaghetti-sauce mix with tomato
2 cans (about 1 pound each) small whole potatoes, drained
2 cans (about 1 pound each) sliced carrots, drained
Directions
1 Brown steak slowly 10 minutes on each side in large heavy frying pan with heat-proof handle or in Dutch oven.
2 While meat browns, prepare spaghetti-sauce mix with water, following label directions; pour over meat; cover.
3 Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 1 hour.
Place potatoes and carrots in separate piles on top of meat; spoon some of the sauce over each; cover.
Bake 30 minutes longer, or until meat is tender.
4 Place meat at one side of heated serving platter; arrange potatoes and carrots around edge.
Garnish with parsley, if you wish.
Pass sauce in separate bowl to spoon over meat.
