Ingredients

 
1/2 cup butter
 
2 cups fresh white or brown breadcrumbs mixed with 1 cup rolled oats or 4 cups breadcrumbs
 
2 lb apples peeled and cored
 
1/4 cup sugar, firmly packed
 
A few raisins
 
1/2 cup light brown sugar
 
2 teaspoons apple pie spice
 
1/2 cup chopped walnuts cream or Custard Sauce to serve

Directions

1 Place butter in 1.75 litre/3 pint (7 1/2 cup) mixing bowl and Microwave on full power for 1 1/2 minutes.
2 Stir in the breadcrumbs, and oats if used. Coat with the butter.
3 Microwave on full power for 3 minutes. Stir well.
4 Microwave on full power for 2 minutes. Stir well.
5 Slice the apples into a 19cm/7 1/2 inch deep souffle dish or casserole and layer with white sugar and raisins.
6 Add the demerara (brown) sugar, spice and nuts (if used) to the breadcrumb mixture.
7 Sprinkle crumble over prepared fruit.
8 Microwave, uncovered, on full power for 5 minutes.
9 Allow to stand for 3 minutes. Serve with cream or Custard Sauce.
