Falafel Patties Recipe

These homemade falafel patties are yeast leavened falafel patties made with garbanzo beans and a medley of flavorful spices. With an exotic blend of middle eastern flavors, these flafel patties can be served with yogurt with an assortement of fresh veggies and is quite nutritious.

 1 tablespoon brewers' yeast (optional)

 Ground cumin1 Teaspoon
 Ground coriander1 Teaspoon
 Chili powder1 Teaspoon
 Lemon juice1 Teaspoon
 Celery seed1/4 Teaspoon
 2 cups cooked garbanzo beans
 Wheat germ3/4 Cup (16 tbs), toasted
 Sesame paste1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Cooking oil2 Tablespoon
 Lettuce leaves4
 Plain yogurt Chopped green onion
 Chopped tomato and/or tomato wedges

Directions

In a blender container or a food processor bowl combine the egg, parsley, 2 tablespoons olive or cooking oil, brewers' yeast (if desired), water, soy sauce, garlic, cumin, coriander, chili powder, lemon juice, and celery seed.
Cover and blend till smooth.
Add the beans, wheat germ, and tahini; blend till smooth, stopping and scraping sides of container as necessary.
Shape the mixture into six 1/2 inch thick patties.
In a 12 inch skillet cook patties in 2 tablespoons cooking oil over medium heat about 5 minutes on each side or till brown.
To serve, arrange patties on a plate lined with lettuce leaves and alfalfa sprouts, or put into pita bread halves, if desired.
Serve with yogurt, green onion, and tomato pieces and/or wedges.
