Traditional English Muffin Bread Recipe
Ingredients
| Flour | 5 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 2 pkgs. yeast | ||
| Sugar | 1 Tablespoon | |
| Salt | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Milk | 2 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Baking soda | 1/4 Tablespoon | |
| Warm water | 1 Tablespoon | |
Directions
In a large bowl, combine 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt.
In a 4-cup measure, heat milk 2 minutes.
Add milk to flour, beating with mixer until smooth.
Stir in remaining flour.
Cover and place in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.
Dissolve soda in warm water.
Stir down yeast batter and blend in soda mixture.
Mix well.
Divide batter into two 8 x 4-inch loaf dishes.
Cover and let rise 45 minutes or until again doubled in bulk.
Microwave 'each loaf 6 to 6 1/2 minutes, uncovered, turning dish one-quarter turn every 2 minutes.
Cool 5 minutes; remove from pan.
Cool thoroughly.
