Ingredients
1/3 cup milk
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1/3 cup warm water (105°-115°F)
3-3 1/2 cups flour
2 eggs
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
5 uncooked eggs, dyed red
1 egg white
Sesame seeds
Directions
1 Heat milk, butter, sugar, and salt to warm (105°-115°F).
2 Dissolve yeast in warm water. Set aside for 5 minutes. Combine 2 cups flour, milk mixture, and eggs. Mix thoroughly.
3 Add cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
4 Knead on floured surface until smooth€”about 10 minutes.
5 Place in greased bowl, turning to coat top. Cover; let rise in warm place until double€”about 1 hour.
6 Punch down dough. Place on lightly floured surface. Set aside 1/8 of the dough for decoration. Shape remaining dough into round loaf. Place on greased baking sheet.
7 Place 1 dyed uncooked egg in center and the other 4 dyed eggs around the edge as tips of a cross.
8 Divide remaining dough into 10 parts. Roll into 5-inch strips. Arrange 2 strips in a cross shape over each egg. Press ends down to keep eggs in place.
9 Cover; let rise in warm place until double€”about 45€”60 minutes. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
10 Bake in a preheated 375°F oven 30€”40 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack.
