Dutch Apple Flan Recipe
Dutch Apple Flan has a Terrific taste. The Sugar and vanilla extracts gives the Dutch Apple Flan Cool taste.
Ingredients
Pastry:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
6 tablespoons margarine or butter
1 small egg
6 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Filling:
1/2 cup light syrup
1 large egg
3 large cooking apples
1/2 cup dates chopped
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Cream or custard for serving.
Directions
Pastry: Sift flour and baking powder into mixing bowl.
Add margarine, egg, sugar and vanilla and knead and squeeze together with hands to form a soft dough (as when making shortbread).
Roll out pastry to a rectangle and line a greased, shallow 12x8 inch cake pan, covering the bottom and 1/2 inch up the sides.
Filling: Gently heat the syrup and beat in the egg off the heat.
Peel, core and slice apples into thin segments.
Pour half the egg mixture over pastry and spread to edges.
Cover with neat rows of overlapping apple slices and pour remaining egg mixture over the apples.
Sprinkle with chopped dates and dot with butter or margarine.
Bake in upper third of a hot oven for 30-40 minutes until cooked.
