Dutch Easter Bread Recipe
How is it that you still haven't tried my recipe for Dutch Easter Bread. It is one European dish which will never fail to impress you or your guests. Try it and feel free to pitch in suggested improvements or variations.
Ingredients
1/2 cup milk
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2-3 cups flour
1/2 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 egg
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/4 cup chopped candied lemon peel
Confectioners' Icing
Directions
1 Heat milk, butter, sugar, and salt to hot (120°-130°F). Combine 1 cup flour and yeast in mixing bowl.
2 Add milk mixture to dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly. Add egg and enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
3 Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth€”about 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning to coat top.
4 Cover; let rise in warm place until double€”about 1 hour.
5 Punch down dough. Place on lightly floured surface and knead in raisins and lemon peel. Cover with inverted bowl; let rest for 20 minutes.
6 Shape and place in greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Cover; let rise until double€”about 1 hour.
7 Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 35€”45 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack.
8 Frost with Confectioners' Icing.
