Dutch Apple Cake Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
1 egg
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup buttermilk
3 cups thinly sliced apples
2 to 3 tablespoons honey, depending on sweetness of apples
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter
Directions
Preheat oven to 350° F.
and grease a deep 9-inch pie pan or casserole.
Sift flour, soda, and salt.
Cut in butter with 2 knives, sharp spoon, or pastry blender.
Beat egg, honey, and buttermilk; stir lightly into flour mixture.
Place apples in baking pan, sprinkle with honey and cinnamon.
Dot with remaining butter and spread dough over them.
Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes.
Loosen cake from sides and bottom and turn out onto a cake plate immediately.
