Classic Dutch Apple Cake Recipe
Ingredients
| All purpose flour | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Baking powder | 1 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| 3 tablesp. granulated sugar | ||
| Shortening | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Egg | 1 | |
| Milk | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Apples | 3 3/4 Cup (16 tbs), sliced | |
| Cinnamon | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Nutmeg | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| 2 tablesp. melted butter or margarine | ||
Directions
Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and 1 tablesp of the sugar.
Cut in shortening with two knives or a pastry blender until the mixture is like coarse corn meal.
Stir in combined egg and milk with a fork.
Spread in a greased or oiled pan about 10" x 6" x 2".
Arrange apples in parallel rows on top, with the pointed edge down.
Sprinkle with the cinnamon and nutmeg combined with the remaining 2 tablesp sugar.
Then sprinkle with butter.
Bake in a moderately hot oven of 400°F for 40-45 min or until apples are tender.
