Double Wheat Burgers Recipe
Ingredients
| 1 large egg plus 2 egg whites | ||
| Whole wheat bread crumbs | 1 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Wheat germ | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), toasted | |
| Walnuts | 5 Tablespoon, chopped | |
| Green onions | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), sliced | |
| Curd | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Parsley | 2 Tablespoon, chopped | |
| Dried basil | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Dried oregano | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Paprika | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | To Taste | |
| 4 thin slices reduced-fat jack cheese (about 2 oz./55 g total) | ||
| Whole wheat hamburger buns | 4 , toasted | |
| Thousand island dressing | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Directions
1. In a large bowl, beat egg and egg whites to blend. Stir in bread crumbs, wheat germ, walnuts, green onions, cottage cheese, parsley, basil, oregano, and paprika. Season to taste with salt.
2. On an oiled 12- by 15-inch (30- by 38-cm) baking sheet, shape mixture into 4 equal patties, each about 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick. Broil patties about 3 inches (8 cm) below heat, turning once, until deep golden on both sides (about 6 minutes). Top each patty with a slice of jack cheese and continue to broil just until cheese is melted.
