Yellow food coloring
Directions
1. Prepare HEIRLOOM SUGAR COOKIES to Step 3. Divide dough in half; tint one-half yellow with a few drops yellow food coloring. Wrap each dough separately in wax paper and chill 3 hours, or overnight.
2. Roll out white dough, half at a time, on a lightly floured pastry cloth or board to a 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into stars with a 3-inch cutter; then cut out a 1 1/2 -inch star from center of each cookie; reserve smaller stars.
3. Roll out yellow dough, half at a time, on a lightly floured pastry cloth or board to a 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into stars with a 3-inch cutter; then cut out a 1 1/2-inch star from center of each cookie. Place large stars on cookie sheets; insert reserved small white stars in centers of yellow stars and place yellow centers in white.
4. Bake in moderate oven (375°) 10 minutes, Or until pale golden. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
