Double Date Cake Recipe

1 package (8 ounces) pitted dates
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg, beaten
1 2/3 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped pecans

1. Chop dates; combine with boiling water, butter or margarine, sugar and vanilla in a medium-size heavy saucepan. Cook, stirring constantly, 10 minutes, or until mixture is slightly thick. Remove from heat; cool. Stir in bejaten egg.
