Double Boiler Mulled Wine Recipe

Ingredients
1 cinnamon stick, 2 inches long
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1/8 of a whole nutmeg
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
1 bottle (one-fifth gallon) dry red table wine (Burgundy, Zinfandel)
1 1/2 cups port
Sliced lemon rounds
Directions
Rub the cinnamon stick with a grater, or use a mortar and pestle until it is well broken up.
Grind the cloves and nutmeg in a nutmeg grinder.
Place the spices in the top of a double boiler with the lemon juice, sugar, red table wine, and port.
Place over hot water and heat for 20 minutes, or until sugar is thoroughly dissolved and spice flavor has permeated the mixture.
Place a lemon round in each mug or cup and ladle the mulled wine into the cups
