Date and Walnut Squares Recipe
Ingredients
| Egg whites | 2 | |
| Salt | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| Firmly packed brown sugar | 3/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 2/3 cup finely crushed Post Sugar | ||
| Krinkles or whole Grape-Nuts | ||
| Egg yolks | 2 | |
| Walnuts | 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| Pitted dates | 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
Directions
Beat egg whites and salt until foamy throughout.
Add 1/2 cup of the sugar gradually and beat until stiff peaks will form.
Fold in half of the cereal.
Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored, add remaining sugar gradually, and beat until blended.
Fold in remaining cereal.
Add to meringue mixture.
Then fold in nuts and dates.
Pour into 9x9x2-inch pan, which has been lined on bottom with paper, then greased.
Bake in moderate oven (350°F.) for 30 to 35 minutes, or until done.
Cool.
Cut and serve with sweetened whipped cream.
