Devil'S-Food Cake Recipe
Devil's food cake is a rich choclate cake that is a real baked treat for everybody. Made with unsweetened chocolate along with milk, eggs and flour, the devl's food cake is rich and creamy and perfect for serving on family ocassions.
Ingredients
2/3 cup shortening
2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/4 cups milk
3 eggs
3 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate melted
Directions
Stir shortening just to soften.
Sift in dry ingredients.
Add 1/2 CUP of the milk; mix until all flour is dampened.
Beat vigorously 2 minutes.
Add remaining milk, eggs, melted chocolate, and 1 teaspoon red food coloring; beat vigorously 2 minutes longer.
Bake in 2 paper lined 9x11/2 inch round pans at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes or till done.
