Ingredients
1 (8-ounce) package dried apples, chopped
6 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
Dash of salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Pastry
Vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions
Combine apples and water in a large saucepan, bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to medium, and cook, uncovered, 30 to 35 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally.
Drain well.
Slightly mash apples, add 3/4 cup sugar, salt, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter, stirring well.
Divide pastry into 9 portions, roll each portion into a 6-inch circle.
Spoon 1/3 cup apple mixture on half of each circle, moisten edges of circles with water.
Fold circles in half; press edges together with a fork dipped in flour.
Heat 1/2 inch of oil to 360° in a large skillet.
