Deep Dish Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients
| Pastry for Single-Crust Pie | ||
| Sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| All purpose flour | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Ground cinnamon | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Ground allspice | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| 12 cups thinly sliced, peeled cooking apples | ||
| Butter | 3 Tablespoon | |
| Milk and sugar | ||
| Light cream or cheddar cheese | ||
Directions
Prepare pastry.
Roll out to a 13x8 1/2-inch rectangle; cut slits in pastry.
Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, allspice, and salt; mix lightly with apples.
Turn into a 12x7 1/2 x 2-inch baking dish (apples will mound higher than sides).
Dot with butter.
Carefully place pastry atop apples; flute to the sides but not over the edge.
Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
To prevent over browning, cover edge of pie with foil.
Bake at 375° for 25 minutes.
Remove foil; bake till crust is golden, 20 to 25 minutes more.
