Date Turnovers Recipe
Ingredients
| Soft margarine | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Brown sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs), firmly packed | |
| Egg | 1 | |
| Vanilla | 1 Teaspoon | |
| All purpose flour | 2 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Salt | 3/4 Teaspoon | |
| Baking powder | 2 Teaspoon | |
| 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon mace (optional) | ||
| 1/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk | ||
| 2 cups rolled oats, Homemade or canned date filling | ||
Directions
Beat the first 4 ingredients together; then stir in sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Add the oats, and chill until firm enough to roll.
Roll out on a floured board to 3/8-inch thickness, and cut into circles, 3â€â€4 inches in diameter.
Dampen the edge of each round.
Dab center with date filling, and fold over.
Press edges together with a fork.
Prick the top with a fork.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 375°F. 10 minutes or until edges are light brown.
Makes 3 dozen.
