Ingredients

 Soft margarine1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Brown sugar1 Cup (16 tbs), firmly packed
 Egg1
 Vanilla1 Teaspoon
 All purpose flour2 1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Salt3/4 Teaspoon
 Baking powder2 Teaspoon
 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon mace (optional)
 1/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk
 2 cups rolled oats, Homemade or canned date filling

Directions

Beat the first 4 ingredients together; then stir in sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Add the oats, and chill until firm enough to roll.
Roll out on a floured board to 3/8-inch thickness, and cut into circles, 3—4 inches in diameter.
Dampen the edge of each round.
Dab center with date filling, and fold over.
Press edges together with a fork.
Prick the top with a fork.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 375°F. 10 minutes or until edges are light brown.
Makes 3 dozen.
