Date Pudding Recipe

Ingredients
8 slices day-old white bread
3/4 lb pitted dates
4 teaspoons blanched almonds
1 scant cup shredded suet
a pinch of salt
1 egg
2 tablespoons corn syrup
Directions
Discard the crusts and make the bread into crumbs .
Put to one side.
Cut the dates into chunks, chop coarsely and mix with the almonds.
Mix the suet, bread crumbs, salt, egg and syrup to a soft dough .
Stir in the dates and almonds.
Put the mixture in a greased 1 1/4-quart pudding mold, cover with greased waxed paper, then cover again with foil.
Put into a saucepan with enough boiling water to come halfway up the sides of the mold.
Cover the pan with a lid and boil for 2 hours, adding more boiling water from time to time so that the pan does not become dry.
Turn out and serve with warm pancake syrup or marmalade.
